I think the correct title to give to Bring It On would be something akin to lightning in a bottle. It’s a film that seems destined to horribleness, but the result was actually more inspired and funny that I could have imagined. The thing is, the success of Bring It On led to a series of defunct sequels. Tit for tat, I suppose.
The direct to DVD Sequel, Bring It On Again (don’t ask how I ended up seeing it) was loathsome in every sense of the word. It’s link to the original is tenuous at best which is what makes its sequel status more exasperating. I’ve never been fond of sequels that aren’t really sequels…why use the title of a franchise if it’s not part of the franchise? Still, Bring It On Again did have the same producers from the original film – which goes to show that (judging from this) the producers had nothing to do with any of the witticisms in the original.
You know how much I like to wax on and on, but Bring It On Again doesn’t even deserve a pan…it’s just a no on all counts. An embarrassment.
And so the MEME begins...
