I Had Myself A True Link...

My favourite post this week comes courtesy of Blake (Bitchin’ Film Reviews) puts forth a fine argument as to why superhero films are the new romantic comedies. I like his argument even more because he touches on two films Friends with Benefits and Captain America which I had issues with despite the positive reviews.

I don’t really love Polanski’s The Pianist but Stevee (Cinematic Paradox) LOVES it. No, I don’t think the film is poor – it’s rather good, but I never managed to appreciate it as vociferously as everyone did, and I always resented it because I felt the story behind it was more wholly loved than the film itself.

Nick is relentless at coming up with the strangest ideas for a post and this top ten is a winner. Has anyone seen the trailer for The Whistleblower (the film which will net Rachel Weisz her second Oscar nomination)? Over at Anomalous Material he imagines ten actors saying a line from the film. # 5 is the best. Seriously.

Luke (Journalistic Skepticism) doesn’t like Mulholland Drive. I don’t feel much for the film either way; although I know Castor loves it. It just sort of sits there for me...anyone care to make an argument for me to watch it again?

Eponymous The Flick Chick lists her five favourite body-switching films. She unfortunately doesn’t have the Lindsay/Jamie switch of Freaky Friday. But, she’s never seen it (and #1 and #2 are golden).

The summer movie season is coming to a close, and not fast enough for me. Maybe the rest of the year will be as underwhelming, but I’m hoping the string of disappointments this year is just because the fall season has reached. Ruth (FlixChatter) lists her five favourite summer blockubsters, so I guess her summer has been going better that mine

And to close, who isn’t anticipating Soderbergh’s Contagion. I haven’t keeping track of the behind-the-scenes rambling of most films, opting to be surprised so I didn’t realise Jude was in until Paolo started talking about the new posters over at The Film Experience. I’ve avoided the trailer, and the IMDB page. It’s like a Talented Mr. Ripley reunion...but for Cate. Sigh.

I don't usually watch trailers but could I honestly resist Vanessa Redgrave? No, I could not. Sure, the Shakespearean roots are not obvious but I never really did like Coriolanus much I'm just excited to see VANESSA REDGRAVE. And Ralph.

'I was nicknamed duck-bum!': Kimberley Walsh opens up about her body image issues

By Iona Kirby

Feeling fit: Kimberley Walsh is the new ambassador for PUMA TrainLite trainers

She's the curviest member of Girls Aloud, but Kimberley Walsh has always seemed confident with her womanly figure.

In fact, unlike most of her bandmates, the 29-year-old has maintained a manageable weight throughout her career.

She certainly looks comfortable in her own skin, but Kimberley has revealed she struggled to come to terms with her shape while at school.

The singer was even nicknamed 'duck-bum' by her peers.

She told the new issue of Zest: 'When I was at dance classes in Bradford, my teacher would always shout, "Pull in your bum, Kimberley!"

'And I’d say, "I’m trying - it just won’t go in!"

'It’s been sticking out since I was two. I had the biggest bum out of about fifty girls in my class.'

And Kimberley says she has a fellow popstar to thank for helping her realise that her curves are beautiful.

Body confident: Kimberley, pictured here greeting fans at the Horrid Henry premiere, is finally happy with her 'normal' figure

It was when Beyoncé shot to stardom that Kimberley learned how to dress for her shape.

'We were exactly the same age and she looked amazing, so I started to dress like her and suddenly my shape made sense,' Kimberley said.

'I’d think: "Oh, yes. Beyoncé’s wearing a figure-hugging dress and drawing attention to her tiny waist", so I’d buy a new dress and a large belt, go out and pretend to be Beyoncé. She was a great alter ego for me.'

Supportive: Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts join Kimberley at premiere

Beyoncé's influence has clearly stuck, as Kimberley usually does a great job of dressing to show off her best assets.

She stole the show at the premiere for her new film Horrid Henry at the end of last month.

The star looked radiant in a bright red dress and lipstick to match, and was joined on the red carpet by fellow bandmates Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts.

Red hot? Girls Aloud looked very different back in 2003

Glam: By 2009 the girls had a much more glamorous look

The film is based on the popular children's books of the same name, in which Kimberley plays Horrid Henry's cousin, Prissy Polly.

She follows in the footsteps of Sarah, who launched into the acting world with a role in the two St. Trinian's films.

Kimberley also spoke out in the interview about about exercising with the rest of the Girls Aloud group.

'Some days, we’d all work out together. It was very amusing.

'Nadine can’t run at all. Her legs are so thin, all she does is say: "It hurts to run,''' Kimberley said.

Until Beyoncé came along, Kimberley says she had an unrealistic idea of how her body should look.

‘I grew up thinking Kate Moss was the perfect woman but that was a totally unachievable body shape for me. It was never ever going to happen,' she said.

Now, Kimberley seems to have embraced her body. She has recently landed a role as the ambassador for PUMA TrainLite trainers.

But she maintains that while she has confidence in it, her figure is nothing special.

She added: 'I hate the word "normal" but that's what I am.'

Geri Halliwell cuts a glum figure as she flees to the South of France to lick her wounds following split from boyfriend

By Georgina Littlejohn

A million miles away: Geri Halliwell looked deep in thought as she tried on some UGG boots in Cannes today

There are a few ways for a girl to get over a broken heart - seek solace in girlfriends, go shopping or go mad and let their hair down on a few wild nights out.

But not Geri Halliwell, who preferred to flee to warmer climes in order to lick her wounds

The former Spice Girl cut a glum figure as she and her daughter Bluebell got out of a taxi in the centre of Cannes today.

They arrived outside a shoe shop and Geri dragged her large pink suitcase inside with her as she tried on a pair of UGG boots decorated with stars.

They then headed to a children and baby shop where the singer was snapped looking at fluffy toys.

She did manage to raise a smile for a friend who she met in the shoe store and looked delighted to see her as she gave her a warm hug.

Shopping with mummy: Geri lifts daughter Bluebell out of a taxi as they arrive at the boutiques

But her sad expression soon slipped back into place and she looked like she was miles away.

Geri and Bluebell arrived in Cannes the day after her 39th birthday which she celebrated in London with some female friends.

Noticeably absent was her boyfriend of three years Henry Beckwith, 32, and the following day, it was revealed that they had gone their separate ways.

Brave face: Geri warmly hugged a friend she met in the shoe shop

I'll take these! Geri looked delighted with her new purchase

The seven year age gap is believed to have eventually took its toll on Geri, with the mother-of-one wanting to settle down and the socialite continuing to party.

A source told The Sun: 'Geri came to the realisation that things weren't going to work with Henry.

'The age gap meant he had a wandering eye when it came to other women and he was interested in partying. She doesn't trust him.'

There's just so many! Geri, dragging her suitcase behind her, put her hand to her head as she surveyed the shoes

How much? Geri talks to a saleswoman as she looks at cuddly toys

The GOP's Picks for the Super Congress

Today, the GOP announced their choices for the Ultimate deficit committee.
And they are:
Senate side - Sens. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.)
Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)
Rob Portman (R-Ohio)
House side - Reps. Dave Camp (R-Mich.)
Fred Upton (R-Mich.)
Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas)

Jon Kyl is an asshole and has been a Tea Party lover for awhile. And all 6 of these bastards have signed a pledge to Grover Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform. This pledge states that they won't vote to raise taxes at all cost. So you know, it's going to be a battle in this group.

Taking style tips from the beau was a bad idea: Sienna Miller shows off scruffy style jetting into Ibiza with boyfriend Tom

By Daily Mail Reporter

What happened? Sienna Miller showed off a scruffy style with dip dyed hair and mismatched clothing as she jetted into Ibiza with her beau Tom

She has been dating Tom Sturridge since April and it is hardly surprising that Sienna Miller has found herself influenced by him.

But it appears that the usually stylish Sienna, 29, has started taking style inspiration for her boyfriend and has adopted a scruffy new look.

The model and actress jetted into Ibiza with Tom last week and displayed a mis-matched casual ensemble and crucially messy dip dyed hair.

Sienna, who is known for being a blonde bombshell, has ditched her luscious light locks in favour of a multi-tonal colour with pink ends.

The Alfie star was dressed in a pair of skinny grey jeans, brown boots, a long T-shirt and a short blue knitted jumper, which made for a mismatched look as she arrived into the party island.

Tom, 25, was sporting his unkempt beard a navy jumper and black jeans with the couple appearing to mimic the others attire.

Where's the glamour: The actress appears to have been taking style tips from her boyfriend and is sporting a much more casual style compared with her blonde bombshell persona

Scraggy do: Sienna has dip dyed her hair pink which is a starling new look compared with her sleek blonde hair

Her latest look is starkly contrasting to her usual red carpet ready look or her boho chic style that she is often seen sporting.

It has been reported that Sienna has recently put down a deposit on a £2.9million north London house and she has asked The Boat That Rocked actor to move in with her.

Affectionate: The couple were seen cuddling as they waited for a car. Sienna is said to have put a deposit on a £2.9million London home and asked Tom to move in

Heavy lifter: The actress was more than happy to help out with the luggage

According to the Mirror a source said: ‘This is her dream home and she really can’t wait to move in.’

‘People may think that four months isn’t a very long time for a couple to be together, but Sienna wears her heart on her sleeve.

Sienna was first linked to Tom in April, two months after she split from actor Jude Law.

All geek and no chic: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg tops GQ magazine's list of worst-dressed men

By Daisy Dumas

Ctrl, Alt, DELETE: Mark Zuckerberg tops GQ's list of worst-dressed men

Consummate nerd and Harvard drop-out he may be, Mark Zuckerberg also happens to be one of the most powerful men in the world.

But for all of his billions of dollars, technological genius and philanthropoligical leanings, the co-founder of Facebook remains a very, very bad dresser.

So bad, in fact, that GQ magazine has just voted 27-year-old Zuckerberg the 'worst dressed man in Silicon Valley.'

Califiornia's technological enclave is, of course, no Milan runway, but to top the list at so young an age and ahead of so many other fashion culprits, is impressive to say the least.

No stranger to lists, Zuckerberg was named Time magazine's Person of the Year in 2010, but this time, the onus is on the entrepreneur to sharpen up his sartorial acumen.

GQ says: 'Nerds run the world. But with their notoriously horrid fashion choices, some dotcom entrepreneurs could use a style IQ boost. While their tech innovations deserve kudos, their outfits are one giant leap back for mankind.'

But Zuckerberg takes the crown, his poorly-fitting jeans, penchant for flip-flops, old-fashioned ties and badly-cut blazers, as immortalised in the Oscar-winning movie, The Social Network, all contributing to the position.

GQ says of the young man's dubious style: 'Oblivious to the fact that jeans and ties come in skinny sizes — or that suits exist — the father of Facebook (and we do mean father) loves to recycle the fresh-from-Stats-class look.'

Flop flop: Multibillionaire and Harvard drop-out Zuckerberg loves a baggy jean, an Adidas flip flop and teenage fabourite, hoodies

Sean Fennessey, editor of GQ.com, told MailOnline: 'It's not necessarily the casual nature of his look - wealth doesn't insist on suits and opulence. Look where that got the Winklevoss twins. It's the fit and the form that put him at the top of our list.

His advice for the Zuck? 'Tailor. Tailor. Tailor. The man has an estimated worth close $18 billion. He could buy Savile Row if he wanted.'

Their '15 worst offenders' also include Howard Stringer, Chairman of Sony Corp - who is mocked for looking like he is a amateur angler - and Microsoft's Bill Gates, whom GQ believes resembles an aged Harry Potter, channelling 'lazy preppy.'

Steve Jobs also makes it onto the rollcall, his offence being the 'self-inflicted uniform' of 'black turtleneck, dad jeans and Seinfeld kicks.'

It is not just GQ who have judged Zuckerberg. So risible is his style that it has inspired the creation of a spoof fashion label, Mark by Mark Zuckerberg. The label's site, a tongue-in-cheek nod to Marc by Marc Jacobs' eponymous spin-off, is a treasure trove of all things geek.

Anything Mark can do: Zuckerberg's bad taste has inspired mock fashion label and style site, Mark by Mark Zuckerberg

The online shop features a range of Zuckerberg-esque garments, all of which are very much within the price range of the Palo Alto local, who is worth an estimated $13.5billion.

There is a $32 bathrobe, $6 Hanes socks - 'both Mark and his chosen socks are characteristically plain and lumpy,' - $46 elasticated jeans and his favourite Adidas flip-flops. There is even a motif-emblazoned tote bag, aka 'The Goldman Sack.'

Thankfully, says GQ, the mock site doesn't actually sell any clothing.

Now, there's nothing wrong with a dash of geek chic - just ask the drifts of celebrities who cannot stop themselves from buying into the heavy-rimmed specs look. David Beckham, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears are all sudden converts to bespectacled cool, seemingly take a lead from the hipsters in London's East End and New York's Williamsburg areas.

Whether they pull it off or not is another question.

Celebri-geek: David Beckham, left, and Britney Spears are two of many celebs who have both bought into geek cool, though their true nerdiness is in doubt

Where edgy stylists, notably Grace Woodward, have years led the pack in geek chic, the hordes joining them have catapulted the erstwhile nerd's staples - heavy-rimmed black spectacles, shirts buttoned to the neck, high jeans, rolled-up trouser pegs - onto the high street.

Granted, Zuckerberg is a very busy man. But there is a distinct lack of chicness - not so much a hint of elevatory irony - about Zuckerberg's wardrobe choices that land him squarely in geekdom.

Only time will tell, but could grandpa-style flip-flops, dressing gowns and white socks become the new word in urban cool?

Mr Fennessey is hopeful we'll all be spared: 'Safe to say, the Zuck isn't birthing any style trends. We're thankful for that.'

TECH ENTREPRENEUR BECOMES A MALE MODEL

Elsewhere in the world of geek chic, Tumblr founder David Karp has just become a new model for Japanese fashion brand, Uniqlo.

The shaggy-haired, blue-eyed pin-up of fashionable nerdiness's new role as a male model is squarely at odds with the tech geek style we've seen in the GQ list.

Not just a prety face: David Karp is the founder of Tumblr and leads the way in making technology model-worthy

The 25-year-old New Yorker, reportedly worth an estimated $10million, is refreshingly white-sneakers and flip-flop free.

In a Uniqlo video, the blogging entrepreneur speaks about the success of Tumblr as a platform for creativity, while wearing a Uniqlo outfit. And pulls it off without pair of ubiquitous heavy-rimmed specs in sight.

Unique geek: Karp is one tech nerd who really can claim the title geek chic as he models for Uniqlo

Pregnant Jessica Alba raises belly laughs in birthing class sketch with Jimmy Kimmel - where HE has a child called Pippa Middleton

By Jody Thompson

Scroll down to watch the sketch...

Belly laughs: Pregnant Jessica Alba raises more than a few giggles in her birthing class sketch with comedian Jimmy Kimmel which aired in the U.S. last night

Heavily-pregnant Jessica Alba showed she was still game for a laugh literally days away from the birth of her second child by taking part in a hilarious comedy birthing class sketch on Jimmy Kimmel's U.S. chat show last night.

Jimmy stands in for Jessica's husband Cash Warren in the skit and joins sultry Jessica, 30, at her birthing class.

In the hilarious sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jimmy, 43, starts goofing around as soon as he gets there, asking the birthing educator taking the class: 'How are babies made?'

Gather round: Kimmel was pretending he was standing for Jessica's husband, Cash Warren

This is how it feels: The funnyman was asked to don an 'empathy belly'

He then is asked to wear an 'empathy belly' by the teacher and when she asks if any of the mothers-to-be wanted to volunteer to go through a mock birth, Jimmy puts his hand up.

As Jessica takes on the role of the father and helps him push, Jimmy moans: 'Why did you do this to me?'

To which she replies: 'You asked for it!'

After lots of pushing, Kimmel eventually gives birth to the fake baby, and says: 'I want to name it Pippa Middleton.'

Keep pushing: Jimmy then goes through with a mock birth while Jessica pretends to be the father

Fierce: The mother-of-one certainly put Jimmy though his pregnancy paces

And breathe: Jimmy put a lot of effort into the fake birth

In real life, Machete star Jessica is due within the next few weeks, but she's currently busy too promoting new movie Spy Kids: All The Time In The World 4D.

She's understood to be expecting another girl and is planning a 'hypnobirth', and explained to TV chat show host and comedian Ellen Degeneres what it entailed.

She said: 'Basically my husband takes me through sort of a meditation. So he's like saying, 'You're relaxed and you're floating on clouds', while you're going through labour and your contractions.'

Can I hold her? One of the birthday class students can't help corpsing

A father's love: Jimmy cradles the newly mock-born baby

What's in a name? Jimmy named his newborn plastic daughter after Pippa Middleton

She added: 'He just sort of does a guided meditation. I'm just concentrating on breathing and staying relaxed because it's when you get tense that makes the whole labor worse and more painful. That's all it is. It's not like a weird thing.

'I actually did this with Honor…it is kind of a way to relax and know that the contraction will only last for so long. You just need to concentrate on the breathing and just the sound of his voice.

'You know, normally I want to strangle him, but at that moment it's sort of calming and wonderful.'

Jessica's film Spy Kids: All The Time In the World 4D meanwhile opens in the UK in 19 August.

Plugging away: Jessica was also properly interviewed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! ahead of the release of her new movie Spy Kids: All The Time In The World 4D
