SDCC '11: The X-Men Panel

So I went to the X-Men Panel and learned a few things about the upcoming split of teams and the new titles.

Here's a rundown:

  • The teams will split carrying on the new philosophy about mutants.
  • Cyclops may not be in the X-Men anymore.
  • The rift between Emma and Cyclops grows.
  • Hope/Jean are a big part of 2012.

  • Wolverine's son will continue to like men (Thank Hera)
  • The Scarlet Witch will also play a part in the X-Men universe.
  • Cyclops may die, someone else may carry on his ideas.
  • The re-numbering of Uncanny X-Men will represent the new purpose of the mutants.
  • Havok, Rachel and Lorna also play big parts in Schism.
  • Schism will shake EVERYTHING up for years.
  • Someone will die in X-Factor.
  • We will see more of the AOA universe.
  • The New Mutants will be okay.

My Idea for the X-Men: First Class Sequel

There are talks about another possible sequel for X-Men: First Class. And if I could throw in a things, this would be my idea.
  • Fast forward a few years where will see Cyclops, Jean and Lorna (Polaris) into the team.  Alex/Havok and the Hank/Beast are still with Xavier.
  • Magneto could have his group (The Brotherhood) the Scarlet Witch, Mystique, Avalanche, Mastermind and Quicksilver.
  • The story could focus around Dr. Bolivar Trask who learns about mutants from stealing files from the government and S.H.E.I.L.D.
  • Trask becomes obsessed with mutants and begins to search for them. He joins up with Dr. Steven Lang and Nathan Milbury (Mr. Sinister) to create a supercomputer to track them down. Nathan goes along with this plan with very different and unknown reasons.
  • They draw the attention of Magneto and his Brotherhood. They don't take to kindly to Trask's intentions. So they threaten him and his crew to leave them alone. This encounter excites Steven Lang and he turns to his secret financial backer, Ned Buckman for advice. Ned is the new leader of the Hellfire Club.
  • Ned tells Steven that he has another plan "Project Master Mold" and they have to capture an alpha mutant known as, The Mimic, to understand the true power of the mutants.
  • Xavier and Magneto also learn of The Mimic and they try to recruit him.
  • Drama ensues and the two teams battle it out while trying to gain the trust of new mutant.
  • Then Steven and Bolivar unleash Master Mold with its tracking robots, the Sentinels.
  • The teams battle the Sentinels. The Mimic helps the teams but dies in battle.
  • Nathan/Mr. Sinister is also there and notices his past projects alive and well, Cyclops and Havok. He wants to take them back, but he leaves them alone. He doesn't think they're ready yet.
  • Magneto warns Xavier that a war is coming, this attack was just the beginning. Xavier agrees, but refuses to follow Mags' path.
This is my idea. It's not completely thought out but I would have fun with it.

Get Ready for X-Men Regenesis

The X-Men will have 2 titles after 'Uncanny' ends. Uncanny X-Men #1 and Wolverine & The X-Men #1 will start in the fall.

Here's more:
Editor Nick Lowe said, "The best thing about this split is that the two books hit two very different chords. One is hardcore super hero action and the other is something else entirely that I can't go too deep into without spoiling 'Schism.' The best way I can describe it is a return to a structure that made the X-Men what it was."

"''The events in 'Schism' will cause a huge rift in the X-Men, the ripple effects of which will be felt in Marvel Universe," Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso added. "In the course of this story, Cyclops and Logan will realize that there is no way for them to continue on the course they've been going — or, indeed, to even co-exist."

He finished by concluding that after "Schism" the two new teams, "will stare at each other across a philosophical chasm the size of the Grand Canyon. This is a war for the heart of the X-Men."
This should be interesting

The Uncanny X-Men Comic will End in October

WTF? No Storm? No Emma? What is going on?

Marvel Comics said the Merry Mutants home comic will end in October!

Marvel Comics is putting an end to the flagship title with issue No. 544 in October as the brutal effects of the upcoming "X-Men: Schism" mini-series rends the team apart.
"Well, as anyone who's watched the movies will know, the traditional axis of the X-Men has been the polarity of Magneto and Xavier. Xavier basically believes in peaceful integration. Magneto doesn't," said Kieron Gillen, who has been writing "Uncanny X-Men" since 2010.
"In the last five years or so, the X-Men have been exploring a different angle. A catastrophe reduced the population to a couple of hundred mutants, and no new ones are being born," he said. "This fledgling species was looking at extinction — and the militarized forces of prejudice moved in for the kill."
Cyclops united the remaining Mutants, doing what neither Magneto nor Xavier, aka Professor X, was able to do.
"Everyone has basically gone along with Cyclops, no matter what reservations they had," he added, but now, those reservations are reaching the breaking point, which is the focus of "Schism" and sounding the death knell of the Uncanny X-Men.

Marvel has likened the fracture, and its fallout, as world-changing as its "Civil War," a 2006-2007 crossover that divided Marvel heroes in ways still being felt.

"The X-Men are getting torn apart from within. The events of `Schism' do more damage to the X-Men than any villain has ever done," said Nick Lowe, who has been editing X-Men books for Marvel for six years and "Uncanny X-Men" since 2006.
Great Hera! What is this big thing? And will Storm be alive? She better be or I'm bringing the Phoenix force down upon Marvel.
