Glee Meme, Day 30: Closing Thoughts

So the MEME ends...

I’m kind of glad I guess, but this is easily the easiest month long MEME I had to do (of course, that just means the others were so difficult). Glee’s season premiere is tonight and who knows what Ryan Murphy’s got planned for us. I’m apprehensive about some of the impending changes – apparently they want even more pop music on Glee. And I like contemporary music as much as the next music lover, but I’m a fan of the musical diversity on Glee so I’m not really thrilled if it’s going to turn into Glee does Top 40. Eh, I’ll see what happens....maybe I’ll do a write-up later in the week. I've heard from a writer over at BuddyTV who's seen a screener of the episode - and apparently it's a good one (in case you didn't know, Matt Rutherford - the silent 12th member - has left the show).
At the momentParks & Recreation, Big Love, Burn Notice, Dexter, The Closer and The Office are all fighting with Glee for my favourite show and Parks & Recreation is winning at the moment (Poehler and Offerman are indisputably irresistible) and it's definitely the show I'm looking forward to most this season. But I’m loving my small share of television at the moment. I have a feeling I won’t be revelling in too many new shows (not for this half of the season at least) but hopefully this season of television shall be good. Here’s to next year’s Emmy’s.

Okay, describe Glee in three words. Me first: crazy. Hmmm, that’s just one. Irrevent, crazy, fun. Your turn.

(Anyone else planning on watching the Premiere? What shows are you looking forward to?)

Glee Meme, Day 29: Idea for a Performance

“Hairography” lies somewhere in the bottom five of the Glee episodes (even though it features Dianna Agron having the most fun I’ve seen her have with “Papa Don’t Preach”) and the horrific mash-up of “Crazy In Love / Hair” is kind of crazy. Of course, that’s their intent, but it kind of sucks that with the wealth of brilliant music in “Hair” that they’ve never tapped into it. With its decidedly ensemble nature “Hair” would be the perfect show for them to sample, and it’s way cooler than other Showtunes they’ve covered, for example “Wicked” (which I like, but “Where Do I Go” > “Defying Gravity” – just saying).

And the Glee MEME is on its way out...

Glee Meme, Day 28: Idea for a Character

Glee’s cast is already large enough, so I’m less that enamoured with the idea of that Charice chick – whoever the hell she is – being a new addition to the cast. Although, logically, they can’t remain with twelve members forever – although that would be nice in a weird way. Glee has opened itself up to so many potential plots they’ve already made way for characters, but I don’t think we’ll ever see them becoming real. Like Puck’s family, those are some characters I’d love to meet. Or Rachel’s gay dads, what relationship does she have with them?
Although I’m still wondering how she’ll remain a main character I’d love to see the psychos who created Teri and her insane sister Kendra. Glee has a lot on its plate as far as characters are concerned, so I’d prefer to see more development of the lot they have than bringing in completely new characters just for the razzle-dazzle (although sometimes bringing in guests for the razzle works at times: Exhibit A, Exhibit B).

Glee Meme, Day 27: Idea for a Glee Episode

I’m kind of blanking on this because I have no idea what the writers are going to be doing with the characters in the new season. There were a number of unanswered questions that should be resolved. In my wake of finally not finding Corey Monteith’s Finn to be a tedious chore to watch (yes, he’s tolerable even entertaining now) there was the big blow-up in “Theatricality” which was well played by all involved. It’s a bit unfortunate that Finn ended up facing the brunt of the punishment, though. As wrong as he was I don’t think Kurt’s previous over-exertions towards Finn make him blameless in the whole fiasco. Finn’s discomfort is logical, in its own “finnocentric” way. That right there is an entire arc at least, Kurt seems to get a free pass for his nastiness because he's gay.
And what about Puck and Finn and Shelby? Does he know that she’s adopted the baby? That’s another arc to work on. I could make up a slew of random stuff because I’ve noticed that though they’re always in a room together I’ve never seen some of the Gleeks talking. An episode where Rachel and Tina have a conversation, or Puck and Artie (they both play the guitar), or Finn and Brittney (they’d have some of the cutest and most stupid children).

And the Glee Meme draws to a close...

Glee Meme, Day 26: Something That Should Have Happened

Glee has a moderate issue with chronology and continuity. One of the most hilarious bits was the fluctuation of Quinn’s baby bump which went from flat to slight to invisible to incessantly protruding all the way from the seventh episode all the way to the end. But that’s not really something that’s particularly important. The biggest things that Glee sort of glossed over was in relation to that entire baby-drama.
The thirteenth episode ends with Finn and Puck apparently parting ways as friends, and the fourteenth episode picks up with them still not talking. Then we go through the majority of the back nine with them having no interaction until “Theatricality” where they seem to be fine with performing the Kiss number together and then the weirdest of things their faux reconciliation in “Funk”. I know me and Finn aren’t talking for some reason...” has to be one of the most unintentionally funny lines (seriously, is Puck THAT stupid?) but the episode ends up with the two performing “Good Vibrations” (a very fun number actually) and after that it seems the entire arc of the baby drama affecting their friendship disappears. That makes absolutely no sense. Sure, Glee’s charm is in its complete lack of attention to realism but it really makes no sense that didn’t turn into a significant arc (are Quinn and Finn talking?)

I suppose in Season 2 that will all just be old news, so there’d be no reason to address it, but at least a conversation concerning their off-and-on friendship would be good. It would seem disingenious for them to continue as friends in the new season as if the entire baby drama (I refuse to call it "Baby-Gate") never happened. I mean, angsty relationship drama isn’t the only things teens have to worry about; friendship warrants a salient plot arc too.

Glee Meme, Day 25: Something That Should Not Have Happened

Puck: “Do you think either of us is going to give a damn about Finn in 3 years?”

Honestly, I don’t get this line. It sort of threw me out of the relative goodness of “Journey” for a moment. It’s as if Ryan Murphy and company forgot everything that happened in the show’s first half and decided to sink one of the few friendships on the show that seemed to have legitimate potential. Because, really, television – Glee in particular – needs to have more moments that’s not about angsty, teenage romance. A significant amount of the first few episodes were rooted in the fact that Puck actually had a real friendship with Finn; he reminded us, Finn reminded us, Quinn reminded us – Finn’s his best friend, and from all indications Finn seemed like his only friend. And, really, if he didn’t plan on giving a damn about Finn in three years why didn’t he just reveal the truth about the paternity from the get-go. As wild as Puck is as a character it sounds like a ridiculously insincere line, I mean if that’s how they decided to explain the reason for Quinn and Puck’s liaison that’s just some uninventive writing.

There's probably a wealth of stuff on Glee I'd say shouldn't have happened, but this one just doesn't make sense. Generally, Glee's good in making their ridiculousness work for them - which is why I generally love it.

Glee Meme, Day 24: A Character I Want More Of

The Glee MEME continues.

Jessalyn Gilsig does good work despite having a character that seems severely underwritten at times, but I’m not sure where the writers can take her (on the show, at least)
But to be honest, I don’t think I consciously wish for more from any character than Puck – well at least it was him for the most part. And then I started realising how brilliant Naya Rivera is and now I’m hoping that Santana gets more to do. It’s weird, the two characters have the strangest relationship. They’ve dated, they’re both second-in-command (or were) to Quinn and Finn but they rarely interact. Well, that’s not true. Whenever Puck gets a new girlfriend Santana gets freakishly crazy. The only time I remember the two having any significant interaction was at the beginning of “Laryngitis” and they work well together. Of course, that doesn’t say much – everyone on Glee seems to work well with their cast members. I’m not sure I want to see Glee descend into mindless relationship drama (like how One Tree Hill is just a loathsome and vile contraption now) and I’m not sure where Quinn and Puck will go, what with their declarations of love and whatnot – but I’d like to see more scenes with Rivera and Salling (I mean, I’m ultimately given up on that other
pairing getting any love).

Glee Meme, Day 23: A Character I Relate To

Continuing with the Glee MEME...

No one really wins here; back when I took the Quiz months ago on Buddytv (under duress from a friend, before I actually cared about Glee as much) they told me I was Will Schuester. I do have my moments where I avoid conflict – which is classic Schuester, but I’m not sure I’m quite like him.

As much as I like Morrison on the show I’m somewhat insulted to be compared to him. I can be as high-strung as Rachel on occasion, but she’s a kind of crazy and though I’m not a reformed bully or a resident badass I completely relate to Puck’s Jekyll and Hyde issues.

Sometimes I think I’m like Artie...well, except for the wheelchair bit – the voice of reason with a penchant for dry humour. I don’t think I’d qualify as a Glee character; I’m too sane for their crazy world.

Glee Meme, Day 22: Least Favourite Guest Star

This was an interesting one, I don’t think I’ve actually loathed any of the guest stars on the show but I do know when I was disappointed in a guest star. I hated Victor Garber’s arc in “Acafellas”. It’s not that I expected him to sing (though, really, the man has a voice on him so that was a waste) but that particular arc just seemed forced and considering that Garber’s a dependable actor I was hoping they’d bring him back just so he could make up for sleepwalking through “Acafellas”

Glee Meme, Day 21: Favourite Guest Star

If you don’t know that I worship at the feet of that 4”11 ray of sunshine otherwise known as Kristin Chenoweth, I do. I’m still waiting for someone to make good and cast her in a show now that it’s been two years since the egregious cancellation of Pushing Daisies. But it was lovely seeing her steamroll the already talented cast of Glee both times she showed up to guest star on the show. Kristin is a tour-de-force and as good as she can get with the dramatics she’s always going to be one of the most brilliant comediennes at the moment. She’s even more important because she brings out the very best in Matthew Morrison, perhaps it’s his chance to go toe-to-toe with another Broadway star, but their scenes are some his strongest.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it...(More on the MEME)

Glee Meme, Day 20: Favourite Quote

Glee really knows how to do it with the quotable quotes, here’s a bunch that come to mind immediately.

#25: Episode: “Journey”
Puck: “Life’s a bunch of experiences. You don’t get a medal at the end of the finish line for being good, you just get dead.”

#24: Episode: “Pilot”
Mercedes: “Look, I’m not down with this background singing nonsense. I’m Beyonce, I ain’t no Kelly Rowland!”

#23: Episode: “Bad Reputation”
Puck: “I try to be a good guy. I go to school and I say Be nice, Puck. But by second period I’ve got a fire extinguisher in my hand and I’m spraying some dweeb with it and I don’t know how I got there.”

#22: Episode: “Sectionals”
Brittney: “Sex isn’t dating...if it were Santana and I would be dating.”

#21: Episode: “The Power of Madonna”
Sue: “Madonna! Simply saying her name aloud makes me feel powerful, even in voiceover. How I have worshipped her ever since I was a little girl. Sorry Angie Jolie, Katharine the Great – Madonna is THE most powerful woman to have ever walked the face of the earth.”

#20: Episode: “The Rhodes Not Yet Taken”
Puck: “That wheelchair kid’s right. That Rachel chick makes me want to light myself on fire – but she can sing.”

#19: Episode: “Mash-Up”
Sue: “I will go the animal shelter and get you a kitty-cat. I will let you fall in love with kitty-cat. And then on some dark cold night I will steal a way into your home and punch you in the face!”

#18: Episode “Bad Reputation”
Emma: “Will can I talk to you for a second?”
Will: “Oh, hey Em. Can you give us a sec?”
Emma: “Actually no, I can’t give you a sec. You’re just gonna have to reschedule your heavy petting session with Ms. Carlyle for a later time.”
Will: “Emma!”
Mrs. Carlyle: “I beg your pardon, I was just telling Mr. Schuester about how my husband recently died!”
Emma: “Wow! Getting them fresh off the rebound now, aren’t you? Amazing! Nobody is safe! Nobody is safe!”

#17: Episode: “Funk”
Sue: “And, though I completely loathe you – you’d make a great trophy husband!”

#16: Episode: “Mash-Up”
Puck: “That night I had the strangest dream. I knew it was a dream because there’s no way Rachel could have climbed up the wall outside my window with no shoes on. When I woke up I knew it was more than a dream. It was a message from God. Rachel was a hot Jew, and the good lord wanted me to get into her pants.”

#15: Episode: “Bad Reputation”
Sue: “Will, I may buy a small diaper for your chin because it looks like a baby’s ass.”

#14: Episode: “Funk”
Puck: “Everyone knows this is gonna come down to me – revenge, fear, the merciless infliction of pain – these are MY kingdoms!”

#13: Episode: “Vitamin D”
Rachel: “What America needs right now is sunshine and optimism. And also angels.”

#12: Episode: “Throwdown”
Sue: “Look at me; even in the heat of battle I’m so elegant – regal. I am Ajax, mighty Greek warrior.”

#11: Episode: “Laryngitis”
Sue: “So you like Showtunes. It doesn’t make you gay, it makes you awful.”

#10: Episode: “Funk”
Sue: “That's what they said about a young man in Chicago from 1871 who thought he'd play a harmless prank on the dairy cow of one Mrs. O'Leary. He successfully ignited its flatulence and a city burned, William. That young terrorist went on to become the first gay president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.”

#9: Episode: “The Power of Madonna”
Santana: “Look Finn, it’s high time you lost the big V. Everything about you screams virgin, you’re a about as sexy as a cabbage patch kid! It’s exhausting to look at you!”

#8: Episode: “Mattresses”
Sue: “All I want is just one day a year where I’m not visually assaulted by uglies and fatties. Seriously, Ohio, these retinas need a day off.”

#7: Episode: “Laryngitis”
Puck: “I feel like that guy that lost all his hair and then lost all his strength.”
Santana: “Sampson?”
Puck: “No, Agassi.”

#6: Episode: Laryngitis”
Rachel: “I’m like Tinkerbell, I need applause to LIVE!”

#5: Episode: “Bad Reputation”
Jesse: “Do me a favour. If we end up next to each other on the barre at ballet club this week, just do your arabesques and piques in silence. Don’t talk to me!”

#4: Episode: “Funk”
Sue: “You know for me, trophies are like herpes. You can try to get rid of them, but they just keep coming back. You know why? Sue Sylvester has hourly flare-ups of itchy, highly contagious talent!”

#3: Episode: “Vitamin D”
Teri: “Oh you may think there’s some sort of competition going on between you and I, but that’s like saying that a nail is in competition with a hammer. Do yourself a favour honey, marry Ken Tanaka. Oh sure, he’s dumb like sand and his fondue pot of nationalities is gonna open your kids up to a host of genetic diseases. But he’s kind, and he’s generous. And he’s available.”

#2: Episode: “Preggers”
Sue: “You know there’s a question I get asked a lot, whether I’m accepting an honorary doctorate or performing a citizen’s arrest. People ask me, Sue, what’s your secret? Well, I’ll tell you my secret Western Ohio. Sue Sylvester’s not afraid to shake things up. You know I’m tired of hearing people complain, I’m riddled with this disease or I was in this Tsunami. To them I say, shake it up a bit, get out of your box. even if that box happens to be where you’re living. I’ll often yell at homeless people, Hey, how’s that homelessness working out for you? Give not being homeless a try. You know something, Ohio? It’s not easy to break out of your comfort zone. People will tear you down, tell you you shouldn’t have bothered in the first place. But let me tell you something, there’s not much of a difference between a stadium full of cheering fans and an angry crowd screaming abuse at you. They’re both just making a lot of noise. How you take it is up to you. Convince yourself they’re cheering for you, you do that and someday they will.”

#1: “Dream On”
Bryan Ryan: “Sue, you’re an impressive woman. I can’t tell you how much you turn me on right now. You ever heard of the term anger sex?”
Sue: “The only kind I know, Bryan.”
Bryan Ryan: “I should tell you, I’m married.”
Sue: “Not a problem for me.”
Bryan Ryan: “And I’m still cutting half your budget…”
Sue: “Ah, you win some you lose some.”
Bryan Ryan: “Should I lock the door?”
Sue: “No I got a secret room upstairs…like Letterman!”

So, Sue and Puck win for quotable actors and “Funk” and “Bad Reputation” win for quotable episodes. Have you ever had any Glee quotes stuck in your head?

Glee Meme, Day 19: Least Favourite Performance

Continuation of the Glee MEME

Really, I don’t think there’s been a number on the show that’s been horrible, but I have to single out this song. I’ll just quote Jesse st. James. This song should be arrested for the crime of sucking. Yes, “Ice, Ice Baby” from “Bad Reputation”

Matt is actually a good rapper, but nothing could save this song – nothing, not even Morrison’s moves and the rest of the club. Actually, I retract that statement. Put it on mute, and it’s actually a fairly good dance number. Go figure.

Glee Meme, Day 18: Least Favourite Character

I considered the twelve main cast members and then added in Santana and Brittney. I stopped at Kurt for some time. Colfer does a good job, but so often Kurt’s nastiness is just infuriating – though when he’s tempered he’s hilarious. I didn’t have to go much further to find someone, I looked to Kurts BFF on Mercedes Jones. Amber Riley seems like a lovely person in interviews, so it’s not her that I dislike – it’s either the way she plays Mercedes, the writing, or both. Each of the New Directions, and perhaps even the adults, has issues with being spoilt. They hate NOT getting their way, but Mercedes always annoys me the most. Yes, I feel something almost akin to sympathy when she gets her story arcs but it’s never sentient and usually I’m just waiting for someone else to come on screen.

Glee Meme, Day 17: Least Favourite Episode

More on the Glee Meme. Heading into dangerous territory, maybe.

I considered “Acafellas”, I loved Morrison’s singing and I even liked the Acafella shows but I didn’t like the episode. But last week, while rewatching “Ballad” with a friend (who LOVES this episode) I realised how much I hated it. The thing I liked most was Rachel and Will and I didn’t love it that much. Really, little about “Ballad” entices me.
It’s the tenth episode of the series and they pair off into duos to sing ballads. That’s one oof the things that annoys me from the get-go. There’s a wealth of possibility there (Artie and Quinn team up as do Tina and the other Asian) but only the three quasi leads sing (Michele, Morrison, Monteith). Sure, “You’re Having My Baby” is a great song, and sure Dianna Agron can sell the weirdest emotional bits and yes Finn’s mother’s reaction to the pregnancy is golden BUT the episode is plagued with so much that seems glib, and then there are the parts I hate like Mercedes horrid advice that it falls at the bottom of the spectrum. It’s still not a horrible episode, it’s a B- (even B in some parts) but it doesn’t make me happy like Glee usually does.
And all of ballads to end with – “Lean On Me”? Eh, pass.

Did you dislike Ballad? Which episode was worst for you?

Glee Meme, Day 16: Favourite Episode

There seems to be the never ending Glee argument as to which part of the season was the superior. Half of the fans hate the back-9 with a stringent loathing and the other half are devoted to it. Incidentally, my top two would be a toss-up between “Dream On” and “Wheels” and really, it’s weird how despite me not being the biggest Artie fan the episodes I like the most (one from the front-13 and one from the back-9) turn out to be the ones that are Artie centred. If forced I’ll decide on Wheels just because, perhaps, it’s the most conscientiously constructed.
Coming down to the end of the MEME I’ll address the issues I have with Glee – I’m not blinded by nepotism. True, Jayma Mays and Jessalyn Gilsig are missing from the episode and even though I’m not the biggest fan of Sue’s arc with her sister “Wheels” work in a way that makes it – arguably – one of my five favourite episodes of ANY show last season (throwing in an episode a piece from Dexter, The Office, The Closer and Parks & Recreation). It’s weird because can’t I put my hand on anything distinctively brilliant – or different – about “Wheels”. The music is fine, but not outstanding – as much as I appreciate Wicked I’ve never been a big fan of “Defying Gravity”. I like the character development of characters I like – Puck, and ones I never considered before – Artie.
I like when Glee gets inspirational without being schmaltzy and though the poignancy of “Dream On”, the honest hilarity of “Mash-Up” and the varied storyline of “Theatricality” come close behind there are things about each of those three episodes that I explicitly dislike. The only thing I can think to dislike about “Wheels” was that it should have been longer – and that’s not a legitimate complaint.

Glee Meme, Day 15: A Couple to ‘Ship for

or perhaps not…
This is a pipe dream and it comes about because Mark and Lea are my favourite on the show. Truly, BEFORE “Mash-Up” there was no way I’d imagine them talking to each other, let alone carrying on a relationship – even if it was for all of three days. And yet, it worked brilliantly – it really did make sense. Puck is such an emotional recluse and Rachel is such an officious psycho (in a good way) that they complement each other. I liked their reunion, of sorts, in “Bad Reputation” because it even touched on that. They both have serious issues they need to work, and they’re both regarded (in the Glee world, and the real world) by their faults. Really, I know this is never happening and it doesn’t make me lament or anything, Glee’s highpoint for me is not romanticism. Still, something Glee suffers with at times is continuity and other than when they are together it’s like they REALLY don’t know each other. They have their one episode hook up, touch on it in a semi-reunion eight episodes later and other than that they have no commuincation. I remember one time where they actually spoke other than those episodes and it was one weird line in “Funk”. I’d like to see them go somewhere, perhaps not a romantic ‘ship but friends. I don’t want Puck soiling the reputation of ANOTHER one of Finn’s women. That’s just too pedestrian. Still, I’d like to see them have a friendship of sorts – imagine the duets they could sing (Barbra and Neil Diamond? Jewish Power!) - come on, they're amazing!

Glee Meme, Day 14: A Scene that Made Me Happy

More on the GLEE MEME
In a way, I’m totally misreading this day in the MEME and in a way I’m completely NOT. There are scores of moments on Glee that made me happy, but I’m looking for a moment that surprised me with its brilliance – loosely used. There was the pregnancy drama of Quinn / Finn / Puck and then there was the fake pregnancy drama of Teri Schuester. Many hated it, I was ambivalent...until the reveal. I don’t hate Teri, she’s a psycho but with reasons and that very dramatic moment where Will finally realises that she’s been faking the entire thing is one of the strongest dramatic moments of the show. It made me happy to see that Glee could get serious and still work. The breakdown worked because we understood where both parties were coming from even as Teri said lines like, “This marriage works because you don’t feel good about yourself.” As much as I love Jayma Mays’ Emma I felt bad at the deterioration of this relationship and Gilsying and Morrison showed us that they WERE talented. And nothing makes me happier (okay few things) than seeing good use of talent.

Glee Meme, Day 13: A Tear-Jerker Moment

The Glee MEME gets personal.
Honestly, I’ve turned into a huge cry-baby at the movies (and TV) recently. I think all the years of ignoring my morality and are finally catching up with me. Sigh. Honestly, I sort of had a heavy heart throughout the back half of “Dream On”. Maybe it was Josh Whedon’s brilliant directing – where the f*** was his Emmy nod? WTF? I digress…I don’t think anyone could not lose the message there, it was honed it, but it wasn’t clichéd. Everyone’s got that dream, and we all won’t see them come true. I know people hate how Glee tends to end with some nice ribbon on top to close the episodes with, but I kind of like that. The thing is, the ribbon isn’t always pleasant especially here. “Dream On” has Neil Patrick Harris being brilliantly funny but it sears in the quieter moments like Idina and Lea teaming up for a number from “Les Miz” or Jenna and Harry tapping and Artie singing “Dream A Little Dream”. It’s all most profound and it’s not just manipulatively sad…but it’s oh so poignant (even if Mark and Dianna get one line each. Ugh.)
And then of course, there’s the finale. Emma’s odd confrontation with Figgins was so bizarre and yet fitting. Glee’s always good at the teacher / student dynamic (even if Will will always continue his nepotism for Finn) and “To Sir, With Love” was just that moving (Santana crying was very WTF – in a good way) – even Sue was moved. And she’s Ajax!

Has Glee ever hit you with any emotional bit?

Glee Meme, Day 12: A Scene That PISSED Me Off

The Glee MEME continues, and you already know I’m altogether too sympathetic towards Puck. He’s NOT the villain of the Glee Club, or the show for that matter. I hated how allegiances seemed so unfairly made during the BabyGate drama (again, who came up with the name?) He obviously wanted to tell Finn about it, whatever his purposes, but his intentions were curbed by some of the worst advice EVER!
It’s during the “Ballad” episode and Mercedes and company decides everyone’s going to sing for Finn and Quinn, Puck is less than enthused about the state of affairs.
Puck: “Finn gets everything, the sympathy – the girl.”
It’s where we start seeing Puck as a real character, like Santana he’s the second-in-command who craves appreciation – no I’m not over reading this...I don’t think. This leads into his stilted confession of the baby’s paternity leading into Mercedes’ nonsense.
Mercedes: “All right...look! You need to get something through your Mohawk real quick. You’re the baby’s daddy, it takes a hell of a lot more to be a father and that role’s already been cast because Quinn chose Finn. And you need to accept that and move on, ‘cause you have no business messing up that girl’s life anymore than you already have. You need to back off. You owe her at least that much.”
WTF? How on earth is lying to Finn and keeping Quinn’s secret a good thing? Mercedes, Mercedes – you’re an idiot.

Glee Meme, Day 11: Favourite Sue Sylvester Moment

I like Jane Lynch on Glee. She’s not as brilliant as some people would make her out, but she’s brilliant enough. She’s having so much fun I can’t resist her. I do prefer her in her ridiculous register when she’s offensively lying through her teeth, and really there are so many moments when she’s just brilliant. Her singing voice is a joy to listen to, but I’m not sure her singing really works in context. That’s why I’m always happiest when she’s using her voice for giving out brilliant one liners (or entire paragraphs). Consider her usual diary diatribes.
“Dear Journal;
Feeling listless again today. It began at dawn when I tried to make a smoothie out of beef bones breaking my juicer... And then at Cheerio’s practice – disaster! It was unmistakeable. (Cut to Quinn wavering at the top of the pyramid.) It was like spotting the first spark on the Hindenburg – a quiver. That quiver will lose us nationals and without a championship I’ll lose my endorsements...and without those endorsements I won’t be able to buy my hovercraft!

Glee club! Every time I try to destroy that clutch of scab-eating mouth-breathers it only comes back stronger like some sexually ambiguous horror movie villain. Here I am, about to turn thirty and I’ve sacrificed everything only to be shanghaied by the bi-curious machinations of a cabal of doughy, misshaped teens. Am I missing something journal? Is it me? Of course it’s not me. It’s Will Schuester!”

Jane Lynch is just brilliant with the ridiculous and her brand of crazy is imperative to balance out the all other types of crazy of Glee. I don’t consider her best-in-show (although she completely ruled “Throwdown”). If there’s one thing the woman can do, it’s sell a monologue. So happy that she’s now an Emmy winner.
